When one thinks of living in a condo or townhome, the biggest concern for many is the pre-conceived idea of a lack of community.

This is the furthest from the truth, for those choosing to live in one of the hottest areas of the city called “Liberty Village”!

This west downtown area called Liberty Village is found just south of King Street with Dufferin Street to the west, the Gardiner Expressway to the south, Strachan Avenue and the CP railway tracks to the east.

The name "Liberty Village" came as a brand name conceived by the property owners and developers in the area, who wanted to distinguish this pocket from Parkdale, which begins just west of Dufferin Street.

This hip urban “location” is considered one of the strongest assets of the hood, being just minutes from the Lakeshore and Lake Ontario, 20 minutes walk to Toronto’s financial core and a mere 10 minute walk to the galleries, fashion and entertainment found on King Street West, Ossington, Dundas St. West and Wellington.

The rapid and continual gentrification of downtown Toronto has been moving farther outwards into some of these new and popular hoods. Young professionals and artists have begun seeking areas further west, looking for less established areas that are not yet at their ceiling regarding price. Their desire for areas that are still a short walk or streetcar ride to the city core, have been instrumental in the phenomenal growth that Liberty Village has seen in terms of new condos, lofts, townhomes, parks and retail.

45 acres have been developed with beautiful townhomes, condominiums, heritage buildings and exciting retail. Many of the old factories have been converted as live/work lofts, restaurants, gyms, design furniture stores and art galleries. One such building is the historic “Irwin Toy Factory” now housing lofts. Office buildings are found in west Liberty Village, and Toronto’s local jazz station has even moved there. Sleek and hip art and design studios have also located to Liberty Village, creating jobs and shopping opportunities for the many local residents, within this growing hood.

This amazing neighourhood provides amazing and eclectic places to enjoy a gathering with friends for a drink after work, brunch or dinner, meet at the gym, local shopping and even it’s own Liberty Village Farmer’s Market on Sundays. Surrounded with parks, the area is super “dog friendly” and it’s perfect for biking, walking or rollerblading. It’s no surprise that the area is often known as the place to LIVE-WORK & PLAY!
